Although there are no official technical documents available yet, Balancer has outlined several specific changes for V3:
- New features, types of pools, and tools will be integrated to meet user needs.
- Positioning Balancer as a platform for other AMMs to build upon.
- Removing barriers and inflexibility present in the V2 codebase.
- The team plans to introduce V3 to the community in Q2 2024.
Earlier, a competitor of Balancer, Uniswap, also announced technical drafts for its V4 version. However, Uniswap's approach faced criticism for integrating "exclusive licenses" and accusations of copying ideas from other exchanges.
The announcement of V3 details is a notable move by Balancer, showcasing its effort to return to the competitive DEX landscape after some unfortunate incidents. In August 2023, a front-end attack resulted in Balancer users losing $900,000 worth of assets.
