Casio Launches G-SHOCK NFT on Polygon

Japanese consumer electronics giant Casio has teamed up with Polygon Labs to release its iconic G-SHOCK watch as an NFT on the Polygon blockchain.

Casio's G-SHOCK NFT Collection

Leveraging Polygon's low gas fees and high transaction speeds, Casio will mint NFTs on this platform, starting with the G-SHOCK Creator Pass collection. A total of 15,000 NFTs will be released on September 23 as a freemint (only covering gas fees), granting access to the project's Discord channel with numerous creative contests to follow.

CASIO ID holders who registered on the company's membership site will receive priority minting access from September 23-26. The public minting phase will occur from September 26-29.

Two weeks ago, Casio filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, revealing plans for NFT and virtual merchandise.

Casio has sold over 100 million watches since 1983. Takahashi Oh, Casio’s Senior Executive Director, commented:

"In essence, G-SHOCK embodies creativity and simplifies user experience. That’s why Polygon is our natural and logical choice. Our goal is to strengthen the bond between the company and users as we celebrate G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary this year."

The NFT collection will be available for purchase in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Japan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

It’s evident that more global brands are turning to NFTs to connect with customers and expand their presence in the Web3 space. Major players like DraftKings, Adidas, Starbucks, and Prada have previously led the way in this trend.
