On the evening of March 1, leading oracle solution Chainlink (LINK) announced the launch of Chainlink Functions, a tool designed to help developers seamlessly connect smart contracts with any traditional Web2 API, while leveraging Chainlink’s secure network for data processing.

Chainlink pointed out that one of the barriers to widespread adoption of crypto/Web3 technology is its current isolation from traditional technology, lacking integration points and often requiring the development of new solutions from scratch to incorporate crypto elements. With Functions, Chainlink aims to bridge this gap by allowing global developers to link deployed smart contracts on the blockchain with popular Web2 APIs, such as social media platforms, messaging services, AI chatbots, and more.

Chainlink noted that Functions is currently in its final testing phase on Ethereum's Sepolia testnet and Polygon's Mumbai testnet, with integrations from major tech players like AWS, Meta, and Google Cloud, alongside several crypto projects including Block Scholes, ChainML, Dopex, Nusic, and Thirdweb.
