DeGods has announced it will streamline its NFT collection to its most basic and essential form, removing unnecessary details and embellishments.

DeGods Simplifies NFT Collection in Season III

According to a release posted on August 14, the renowned NFT collection DeGods has unveiled Season III of its project, featuring an updated design for its NFTs.

The DeGods team stated that, following community feedback, they have decided to take the collection in a more practical direction. Therefore, Season III will be dubbed "The Downgrade."

Those who choose to convert their NFTs to the Season III version will see their NFTs simplified to a “flat design” - meaning only basic 2D color overlays, with no special tones or shadow effects.

DeGods aims to “simplify” NFTs to retain only the most fundamental design elements, which are considered the essence and most important aspects.

This approach aligns with a broader trend adopted by many global brands and companies since the 2010s, which involves simplifying logos to enhance brand recognition.

The trend of minimalism began with beverage brands like Pepsi...

...and Starbucks from the late 20th century...

...and has since spread to nearly every global brand and industry...

...including traditional and heritage-heavy automotive brands.

DeGods’ decision has sparked mixed reactions among supporters and the broader crypto community.

Some NFT investors holding DeGods praise this as a smart move by the development team, potentially setting a new trend in the space. They have showcased their “downgraded” NFTs as a sign of support.

Others view this as another sign of stagnation and lack of innovation in the NFT sector following a prolonged downtrend, which has led to significant declines in floor prices for many top NFT collections and a loss of confidence among investors. DeGods has also been criticized for seemingly extracting additional value from its supporters by pricing the downgrade at 333 DUST (approximately $606), with a 33% discount every 30 days.

The trend of "simplification" in NFTs is also reflected in the Open Edition collections by artist Jack Butcher. However, it has sparked controversy in the case of Azuki’s new collection, Elementals.
