Estimated: $102 Billion in Tokens Awaiting Unlocking
According to a report from Token Unlocks, an estimated $102 billion worth of tokens are still awaiting unlocking in the coming years, including prominent names like XRP, FIL, OP, LINK, and BIT.
Token Unlocks has compiled data from 300 leading projects with fixed supplies on CoinGecko to produce the following estimates, based on prices as of December 31, 2022:
- Fully Diluted Valuation: $570.8 billion
- Market Capitalization: $468.7 billion
- Value of Locked Tokens: $102.1 billion
The report concludes that 82.1% of tokens from projects with a fixed supply have already been released into the market. However, there remains $102.1 billion worth of tokens that will be unlocked over the coming years.
Furthermore, the report shows that 96 projects have less than 25% of their total token supply locked, while 15 projects have over 75% of their supply locked. The average figure stands at 38.6%.
Top 15 Projects with Significant Locked Tokens:
Token Unlocks has listed the top 15 projects with large amounts of tokens yet to be unlocked:
- Ripple (XRP) leads with $17.9 billion.
- Filecoin (FIL) and Optimism (OP) are in second and third places, with values of $4.9 billion and $3.7 billion, respectively.
- Chainlink (LINK), BitDAO (BIT), ApeCoin (APE), and STEPN (GMT) are also above the $1 billion mark.
- Hedera (HBAR) and Axie Infinity (AXS) are estimated to have locked tokens worth around $1 billion each.

- February 3, 2023: 150 million DYDX (approx. $195 million)
