Ethereum Completes Dencun Upgrade on Sepolia Testnet

The Dencun upgrade has been deployed on 2 out of 3 test networks, gearing up for its impending mainnet release.

Ethereum has successfully implemented the Dencun upgrade on the Sepolia testnet early on January 31 at 5:21 AM. This marks the second successful testnet deployment following Goerli on January 17.

Overall, the Dencun upgrade remains on track as per the previously outlined schedule. The final testnet deployment, Holesky, is scheduled for next week on February 7. Following successful testing, Ethereum developers will finalize plans to deploy Dencun on the mainnet, tentatively slated for February-March.

Initially scheduled for late 2023, Dencun was delayed due to various technical issues and readiness concerns among client groups.

One anticipated feature of Dencun is proto-danksharding, aimed at reducing gas fees and enhancing scalability by introducing a compressed data storage mechanism called "blobs."

Even before its official rollout, there are indications that Ethereum developers are discussing the next upgrade post-Dencun. This upgrade, named Prague/Electra, or simply Pectra, follows the naming convention similar to Cancun/Deneb (Dencun).

Coin68 will continue to provide updates on the upcoming developments related to the Dencun upgrade.
