FIFA Releases NFTs, Offering Opportunity to Attend 2026 World Cup Final

FIFA is releasing NFTs, offering a chance to attend the 2026 World Cup final for free to owners of the first 100 FIFA NFTs.

FIFA is set to launch a limited digital collection this weekend. In its initial phase, they will introduce 100 different NFTs, with the rarest ones granting their owners tickets to the 2026 World Cup final. Around 900 NFTs will be issued on the Polygon blockchain and listed on the NFT OpenSea platform.

Initially launched on Algorand, FIFA plans to migrate its NFTs to Polygon for the second phase of this collection. Future collections will also utilize this layer-2 solution, as announced.

Last year, FIFA introduced "FIFA + Collect," promoting affordable access for global football fans to unique digital artworks. The latest collection was unveiled just before the FIFA Club World Cup 2023, taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from December 13 to 22, 2023.

Modex will oversee the strategic management of FIFA's digital collectibles platform. Modex CEO Francesco Abbate shared, "Digital collections enhance fan interaction with their favorite players, teams, and matches. We are honored to partner with FIFA to achieve this goal."

While the NFT sector has shown signs of recent resurgence, it has yet to match the hype of previous booms, such as when a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT changed hands for millions. However, major brands continue to embrace this trend, using NFTs as a means to engage with their fan bases.

Prior to FIFA, other notable names in the crypto space have leveraged professional sports to connect with consumers, including OKX's expanded sponsorship with Manchester City and Sorare's NFT agreement with the English Premier League.
