Layer-2 Base Officially Opens ETH Bridge for Users

After a few weeks of deploying its mainnet for builders, Layer-2 Base has officially announced the opening of its ETH bridge to enhance user experience.

Official Launch of ETH Bridge on Layer-2 Base

According to a tweet from Base, bridging ETH from the Ethereum mainnet to the Layer-2 Base solution is now officially supported. This allows users to perform basic fund transfers and mint commemorative NFTs on the new network.

"We are excited to announce that the ETH bridge to Layer-2 Base is now live. Users can start transferring ETH and minting NFTs on our platform. Additionally, over 50 Dapps that have partnered with Base will begin their deployment starting on August 9." — Base Twitter

The tweet also mentioned that users could start experimenting with projects on Base starting from August 9, marking the deployment milestone for over 50 Dapps that previously reached agreements with Base.

Mainnet Deployment and User Experience

Base launched its mainnet for builders in mid-July 2023. However, during this phase, users could not access a specific interface for depositing funds and had to transfer ETH unidirectionally to contracts provided by the project to bridge to Layer-2 Base.

The builder mainnet phase witnessed some drama, notably the BALD memecoin rug pull and the LeetSwap exchange exploit.

With the launch of an official bridge, Base is expected to set a more standardized user experience and minimize the occurrence of such issues experienced during the initial mainnet testing phase.

Future Prospects

The official ETH bridge's launch is a significant step towards improving user interaction with the Base network. It promises a smoother and more secure experience, encouraging broader adoption and experimentation with the Layer-2 solution. This move is anticipated to foster a more robust ecosystem, attracting developers and users alike to explore the possibilities offered by Base.
