Linea Users Face 6-Day Withdrawal Delays to Ethereum

Users of Linea are facing significant withdrawal delays from the bridge solution, just two weeks after the layer-2 network launched its mainnet.

Delayed Withdrawals on Linea

Despite Linea's announcement that the issue has been patched, some users are still unable to withdraw their ETH from the layer-2 network to Ethereum. On July 24, the project tweeted:

"We are working tirelessly to accelerate the transfer of assets from L2 to L1. The withdrawal times will gradually decrease until the issue is fully resolved in the coming days. Rest assured, all transactions in the queue will be processed sequentially."

Linea also mentioned that users bridged $20 million in crypto assets on the network last week.

Community Frustrations

This statement came after several days of user complaints about unusually long delays in withdrawing Ethereum from the network. Normally, the process takes about 32 hours, as Linea had committed, but many users have been stuck with their funds since June 24. One community member, Ibaba, expressed their frustration:

"Can anyone tell me how much longer I have to wait to receive my ETH that’s stuck in the Linea bridge? I've been waiting for 6 days already."

Technical Issues

A "batch submission issue" has caused the withdrawal function between Linea and Ethereum to stall, according to Roo, a Linea Discord admin, on July 21.

Linea subsequently implemented a patch, but the batch submission process to Ethereum did not synchronize properly with the layer-2 network, causing ongoing delays. Some users have criticized the project team for not being transparent about the issues.

"It's clear that the mainnet has issues. The team needs to provide daily updates to reassure users and reduce the workload on the moderators," one user commented.

Linea has asked the community for patience during this early phase and promised to deliver a seamless and secure user experience.

About Linea

Linea is a layer-2 solution developed by ConsenSys, the organization behind the MetaMask wallet. Announced in late 2022, Linea combines zk-Rollups technology with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, thus being termed zkEVM. In March of this year, ConsenSys launched the public testnet of their zkEVM solution and officially named it Linea.

Besides Linea, several other major projects are developing zkEVM solutions, including Polygon zkEVM, zkSync Era, Taiko, and Scroll.
