MetalCore Launches as the First Game on Immutable zkEVM

MetalCore, a first-person shooter game set in a mechanical universe, made its debut on the Immutable zkEVM blockchain.

MetalCore is the inaugural game launched on the Immutable zkEVM layer-2 platform. Currently in its second closed beta phase, limited to players from April 9 to April 22, the game is slated for a full release later this year.

The project has already attracted thousands of players, completing over 800 missions during its initial open beta phase. MetalCore also implements a point accumulation mechanism similar to airdrop rewards, potentially convertible into governance tokens in the future.

MetalCore operates on a free-to-play model, set against a backdrop of factional warfare for resources in outer space. The MCG token serves as the primary currency, used for converting items, weapons, and vehicles into in-game NFTs. The game also introduces another currency, "Marks," distributed through challenges, social missions, or the game's guild system.

Last month, Studio 369, the organization behind MetalCore, successfully raised $5 million USD from Delphi Digital, Bitkraft Ventures, Sanctor Capital, and Spartan Group.

It's important for readers to distinguish between Immutable zkEVM and Immutable X, both offspring of web3 infrastructure company Immutable. While Immutable zkEVM supports smart contracts to provide EVM ZK-rollup for games based on Polygon, Immutable X, developed by Starkware, operates as a layer-2 solution that does not support smart contracts.

Immutable X launched in April 2021, whereas Immutable zkEVM activated its mainnet earlier this year in an early access mode.
