American Bitcoin (ABTC) Stock Goes Wild on Debut: Nasdaq Halts Trading 5 Times Over Extreme Volatility

On its first day of trading after relisting, American Bitcoin (ABTC) sent shockwaves through the market after Nasdaq was forced to halt the stock five times due to extreme price swings.

Surged Nearly 85% Then Reversed Hard

ABTC — the Bitcoin mining company co-founded by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. — had a dramatic debut session. The stock shot up nearly 85% to $14 at its peak before quickly pulling back to around $9.80 per share by the close.

The halts were triggered by Nasdaq in rapid succession within less than 40 minutes, starting at 3:09:35 UTC, a sign of heavy liquidity and a flood of investor participation.

Merger as a Fast Track to Going Public

American Bitcoin officially went public after completing an all-stock merger with Gryphon Digital Mining. This is an increasingly popular strategy among crypto companies, allowing them to cut through the time and cost of a traditional IPO.

Many other companies in the space are taking the same route, particularly through SPACs (Special Purpose Acquisition Companies) — shell companies set up specifically to acquire promising businesses and take them public through a backdoor listing.

Wall Street's Appetite for Crypto Stocks

ABTC's explosive debut underscores Wall Street's growing interest in digital asset companies, particularly in the Bitcoin mining sector. The event also reflects a broader trend of institutional investors gradually embracing crypto as a core part of their long-term portfolios.

With the Trump family brand attached and strong market momentum behind it, ABTC is likely to remain in the spotlight going forward, cementing its place as one of the most closely watched names in the Bitcoin mining stock space.
