Avici Hack Drains $1.1M Across Solana Neobanks, Token Plunges 49%

What happened: A vulnerability in an outdated Rain-built Solana card contract enabled attackers to drain approximately $1.1 million across multiple crypto neobanks, with Avici users losing about $500,800 and Tria users over $430,000. The AVICI token dropped 49% to an all-time low of $0.217 before partially recovering. Attackers exploited contract logic to appoint themselves as administrators and siphoned funds, laundering proceeds through Tornado Cash. Avici pledged full refunds plus a 10% cashback for affected users, while Rain issued a patch the same day.

Why it matters: The incident exposes persistent vulnerabilities in third-party smart contract integrations within the Solana ecosystem and highlights the risks of relying on outdated code. The swift response and refund commitment by Avici may help restore user trust, but the exploit adds to concerns about the security of crypto neobanking platforms and the speed at which attackers can capitalize on contract flaws.
