Crypto Today: ARK Invest Doubles Down on BitMine, Bitcoin Whales Selling Hard, Balancer Issues Ultimatum to Hacker

The crypto market continues to see significant activity. From ARK Invest's buying spree to the divergence between retail investors and Bitcoin whales, to a $100M+ hack at Balancer — these developments are sending important signals heading into the new trading week. ✅ Cathie Wood's ARK Invest Pours Another $2M into BitMine, Trims Tesla Exposure According to daily trading reports, ARK Invest purchased a total of 48,454 shares of BitMine, worth approximately $2 million, across three major ETFs — ARKK, ARKF, and ARKW. The move came as Cathie Wood's fund simultaneously trimmed its Tesla position by roughly $30 million. BitMine is a company that has been accumulating Ether (ETH) as a treasury asset since April. On the back of this strategy, BitMine shares have surged 415% year-to-date in 2025 and posted gains of over 7% in the most recent trading session. Many analysts see this as a sign that institutional capital is rotating into Ethereum-related assets.

✅ Cathie Wood's ARK Invest Pours Another $2M into BitMine, Trims Tesla Exposure

According to daily trading reports, ARK Invest purchased a total of 48,454 shares of BitMine, worth approximately $2 million, across three major ETFs — ARKK, ARKF, and ARKW.

✅ Whales Selling, Retail Buying: A Warning Signal for Bitcoin

Data from Santiment reveals a notable divergence in recent days. Since October 12, whale wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTC have offloaded roughly 32,500 Bitcoin, while retail investors have been steadily buying the dip.

According to Santiment, history has shown that price tends to follow the whales, not retail. This could signal short-term downward pressure. That said, some analysts argue that ETF inflows are still serving as a counterbalance and that it's too early to draw conclusions about the next trend.

✅ Balancer Issues Ultimatum to Hacker Behind $100M Theft

Last week, the Balancer protocol fell victim to an exploit targeting the Composable Stable Pools in its V2 deployment, resulting in over $100 million in digital assets — including stETH, OSETH, and WETH — being moved to a new wallet.

Balancer DAO posted an on-chain message to the hacker demanding the return of funds by Saturday in exchange for an undisclosed bounty. The project warned that if the deadline passes without a response, the team will pursue legal action, technical countermeasures, and on-chain tracing.

The incident has also reignited debate around smart contract auditing, despite four security firms having previously audited the contracts in question.

Conclusion

Today's crypto market paints a mixed picture: institutional capital is flowing heavily into BitMine, Bitcoin whales are taking profits, and the DeFi ecosystem continues to face security risks. Investors will be watching how Bitcoin's price responds to selling pressure and how the Balancer-hacker negotiation plays out — both factors could directly shape market sentiment in the days ahead.
