According to a tweet from developer terence.eth, the Sepolia testnet has successfully deployed the Shanghai upgrade, also known as Shapella. However, the developer noted some issues with outdated client versions.

"Some Prysm validators failed to sync with the network due to running an outdated version of Geth. They should be back online within the next 10 minutes. The network's next stop is the Goerli testnet."

The Ethereum Foundation clarified that the name "Shapella" is a portmanteau of "Shanghai" (the execution layer upgrade) and "Capella" (the consensus layer upgrade).

The Ethereum Foundation's Explanation of the Upgrade Name

The headline feature of this hard fork is enabling validators to withdraw ETH from the Beacon Chain. Readers can find more details about the other changes included in this upgrade in the linked article below.

The next step for Ethereum developers is to test Shanghai on the Goerli testnet, expected to happen in March. The Core Devs will review the results before setting a final mainnet launch date for this critical upgrade, targeting the end of March.
