Goldman Sachs to Acquire NEOS for Up to $2.25B, Inheriting $1B Bitcoin Income ETF

What happened: Goldman Sachs announced a cash-and-equity deal valued up to $2.25 billion to acquire NEOS Investments, a specialist in options-income ETFs. The acquisition brings NEOS's $30 billion in ETF assets, including the $1 billion BTC covered-call ETF (BTCI) with a 27% distribution yield, into Goldman's asset management division. The deal is expected to close in Q1 2027.

Why it matters: The acquisition gives Goldman instant scale in the fast-growing derivative-income ETF market, leapfrogging its own April 2026 crypto ETF filing. However, BTCI's high yield comes with a 43% trailing-year drawdown, highlighting the risks of covered-call strategies in volatile markets. The move positions Goldman to compete directly with BlackRock in a segment growing at a 70% CAGR since 2021.
