Mirae Asset Unveils $109B Digital X Vision After Korbit Acquisition

What happened: Mirae Asset Financial Group's chairman, Park Hyeon-joo, outlined a $109 billion (150 trillion won) digital asset plan for Digital X, the rebranded Korbit exchange. The strategy focuses on crypto, stablecoins, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, and security token offerings (STOs), with ambitions to tokenize commodities like gold, silver, and electricity. Mirae Asset acquired a 97.15% stake in Korbit for $102 million in July, followed by a $35 million capital injection.

Why it matters: Mirae Asset's vision represents one of the largest digital asset ambitions by a traditional financial group, but it starts from a modest base—Korbit held just 0.5% of Korea's exchange market share in 2025. The plan to offer zero trading fees through August 2027 aims to rapidly build market share. While aspirational, the scale of the target highlights growing institutional interest in tokenization and digital asset infrastructure in Asia.
