What is Newton and who built it?
Newton Protocol is infrastructure developed by Magic and the Magic Newton Foundation to bring to Web3 a mechanism that allows agents to execute on-chain actions in strict accordance with rules set by the user, while guaranteeing transparency and verifiability through ZK and TEE.
Magic Labs, the company behind Newton, was founded in May 2018 by two engineers from the University of Waterloo:
- Sean Li – CEO, co-founder of Kitematic (acquired by Docker)
- Jaemin Jin – CPO, formerly at Uber and the Apple Siri team
Magic is a recognized leader in passwordless embedded wallets, having integrated over 50 million wallets and serving projects such as Polymarket, WalletConnect, Helium, and Immutable. How Newton Works: Verifiable Automation
Newton operates through four participant groups: users, developers, operators, and validators, along with three core technical components:

Compliant with the ERC-4337 and EIP-7702 standards, this allows users to safely delegate actions via session keys without ever surrendering their private key.
🔹 2. zkPermissions
A ZK-based permissions system that enables complex rule configurations such as:
- Execute trades only when on-chain data is favorable
- Define golden cross strategies, slippage limits, and liquidity conditions
- Only trade after CPI data is published and inflation is < 2%
- Risk checks on frequency, timing, and trade volume

The bridge connecting users to operators — essentially a "decentralized automation marketplace." All actions are verified by TEE and ZK to ensure validity.
