Payward Bets Billions on Becoming Financial Infrastructure Giant

What happened: Kraken’s parent company, Payward, is executing an aggressive expansion strategy, acquiring NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion and Bitnomial for $550 million, with a European bank deal pending. The firm is integrating trading, payments, asset management, and B2B services on a single platform. Q2 2026 adjusted revenue reached $508 million (+17% YoY), with 6.6 million funded accounts holding $40–50 billion in assets. Nasdaq invested $100 million, and tokenized equities are slated for a 2027 launch on the London Stock Exchange.

Why it matters: Payward’s multi-brand, infrastructure-first approach sets it apart from both Coinbase and Binance, aiming to serve as the backbone for institutional and retail crypto finance. The integration of a U.S. futures broker, a derivatives exchange, and a European bank is ambitious and carries significant execution risk. With a confidential IPO filing in late 2025 and a public listing expected in 2027 or later, Payward is positioning itself for long-term dominance in regulated crypto infrastructure. Source: CoinDesk
