What happened: On August 30, Robinhood Chain, a two-month-old Arbitrum Orbit Layer 2, generated $2.66 million in daily revenue—outpacing Ethereum's $1.57 million and trailing only Solana among major blockchains. The chain processed a record 5.52 million transactions and saw the launch of 22,600 new tokens in a single day, with memecoin trading tools like GMGN, Pons, and Uniswap accounting for 88% of revenue. Much of this activity was driven by a 90-day promotional gas subsidy, making transactions effectively free; this subsidy is set to expire by the end of September 2026.
Why it matters: Robinhood Chain was initially pitched as a venue for real-world assets and tokenized stocks, but its explosive growth has been almost entirely driven by memecoins and speculative trading. The sustainability of its revenue lead is uncertain, as the current figures are inflated by the temporary gas subsidy. CEO Vlad Tenev acknowledged the memecoin trend, stating, "While we're building robinhood chain to be the best chain for RWA … it works great for memes too." The chain's ability to retain users and revenue post-subsidy will be a key test of its long-term viability.
