Robinhood Posts Record Profits as Crypto Revenue Nearly Doubles, Doubles Down on Global Asset Tokenization Strategy

Online trading company Robinhood just reported its Q2 2025 results with impressive growth across most financial metrics. Most notably, crypto revenue hit $160 million, up 98% year-over-year. That figure accounts for nearly one-third of total transaction-based revenue, reflecting both a strong crypto market recovery and Robinhood's growing footprint in digital assets.

Profits More Than Double; Gold Subscribers and Custodial Assets Both Surge

  • Net revenue: $989 million (+45% YoY)
  • Net income: $386 million (+105% YoY)
  • Gold subscribers: 3.5 million
  • Assets under custody: $279 billion
  • Funded accounts: 26.5 million

The crypto segment didn't just post strong revenue — it also recorded $35 billion in trading volume, up more than 32% quarter-over-quarter. The primary catalyst was Robinhood completing its acquisition of crypto exchange Bitstamp for $200 million, expanding its European customer base and meaningfully boosting trading volume.

Going All-In on Asset Tokenization

CEO Vlad Tenev announced that Robinhood is aggressively pushing its real-world asset (RWA) tokenization strategy — covering private equity, real estate, venture funds, and other asset classes that have historically been out of reach for retail investors.

In late June, Robinhood launched a pilot of "Robinhood Chain" — a Layer 2 blockchain focused on securities trading in Europe. The company also issued several tokens tracking shares of major private companies like OpenAI and SpaceX, though this has drawn regulatory scrutiny from Lithuania as well as questions from the companies themselves.

Tenev stated:

"We believe tokenization is the biggest revolution in finance in the last decade. And Robinhood will lead that wave."

Eyeing Canada and Expanding Staking in the U.S.

Beyond its U.S. and European presence, Robinhood revealed it is in talks to acquire WonderFi, a Canadian digital finance platform, as part of its broader Web3 ecosystem expansion.

At the same time, the company activated ETH and SOL staking in the U.S., opening the door to DeFi services for mainstream retail investors.

Conclusion

From its roots as a simple stock trading app, Robinhood is steadily repositioning itself as a "next-generation digital bank" that integrates crypto, blockchain, and asset tokenization. With an enormous user base (25 million in the U.S.) and assets under management approaching $1 trillion, Robinhood has everything it needs to compete in the race to tokenize real-world assets — a market projected to be worth tens of trillions of dollars.
