Tether Mints Another $1 Billion USDT on the Tron Network

Stablecoin issuer Tether has minted an additional 1 billion USDT tokens on the Tron network, bringing the total USDT minted over the past year to $33 billion. On August 20, blockchain data showed that Tether minted $1 billion USDT on the Tron network and transferred it into its treasury wallet. According to onchain analytics platform Lookonchain, the "Tether Treasury" wallet has minted $33 billion in stablecoins over the past year.

China's Supreme Court Revises AML Law to Cover "Virtual Assets"

China's Supreme Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate have revised their interpretation of the country's anti-money laundering (AML) law, recognizing "virtual asset" transactions for the first time. The current AML law has been in effect since January 1, 2007, making this the first significant update in nearly two decades. According to the court, transferring and converting criminal proceeds through digital transactions will be governed by regulations prohibiting the "concealment and disguise of the origin and nature of criminal proceeds."

Crypto May Not Be a Partisan Issue: Coinbase

According to a survey commissioned by Coinbase, roughly equal shares of young crypto holders in key battleground states identified as Democrat (41%) or Republican (39%). Coinbase noted: "Young voters could tip the scales for either party — and this matters even more in battleground states, where a handful of votes can decide the winner."

The Coinbase report also noted that candidates from both parties need to pay attention to the young, diverse, and crypto-friendly voter bloc, as they could make or break campaigns in the 2024 election cycle. Former President Donald Trump has made overtures to the crypto community, pledging to put Bitcoin and digital assets at the center of America's innovation economy. Vice President Kamala Harris, by contrast, has remained largely silent on cryptocurrency since securing the Democratic nomination.
