What is d/acc?

d/acc (Decentralized Accelerationism) is a philosophy that blends decentralization and technological acceleration with a focus on defensive solutions and the promotion of democracy. Rather than chasing technological development as a means to consolidate power, d/acc aims to build technological tools that protect freedom, privacy, and decentralized power.

According to Vitalik, the goal isn't just to create technology faster — it's to ensure that technology is deployed responsibly, with human interests always front and center.

Progress Over the Past Year

Vitalik highlighted a range of technological advances that embody the spirit of d/acc:

  • Open-source vaccines: Expanding global access to healthcare and reducing dependence on large corporations.
  • ZK-SNARKs & Ethereum wallets: Advances in security technology that protect user privacy on the blockchain.
  • Airborne virus detection tools: Helping reduce the risk of disease spread within communities.

AI and Its Major Challenges

Vitalik stressed that today's AI development faces two serious dangers:

  1. The race to move fast: Nations and organizations pushing AI forward without adequate consideration of the social consequences.
  2. Military-led technology: The concentration of power within technological systems risks creating global instability.

He called for a balanced approach — one where AI is developed responsibly, with safety and fairness for everyone as the top priorities.
