Optimism has deployed the Delta upgrade on its mainnet, aimed at optimizing operational costs for OP Chain.

On the early morning of February 23rd, Optimism officially announced the deployment of the Delta upgrade onto the mainnet, aimed at significantly reducing operational costs for OP Chain networks.

According to OP Labs' announcement on X platform, the Delta upgrade has successfully reduced fixed costs for OP Chains by up to 90%.
Today at 0:00 UTC, the Delta Upgrade goes live on OP Chains.

Delta introduces span batches, a feature that will reduce the fixed overhead cost of operating an OP Chain by over 90%!
Implemented by Test In Prod, a development unit under Optimism, this update introduces the notable feature Span Batch, which decreases interaction costs with Layer-1 for projects built on the OP Stack toolkit.
Span batches will support the adoption of the OP Stack by meaningfully reducing L1 costs for OP Chains, therefore reducing the risks of launching new L2s with the OP Stack.

Preliminary estimates suggest that the Delta upgrade could reduce Layer-1 data size for OP Chains by approximately 22%, thereby bringing projects closer to break-even points.

- Zora's L1 data usage is down ~22% so far. No longer at negative margin on DA.
- My dumb data model estimates ~7k txs / day to breakeven (excl. priority fees), down from ~50k+ before 💪 (reducing further with 4844) pic.twitter.com/zgBXFJrhGh
Delta marks the second major upgrade following Canyon in January 2024. Looking ahead, Optimism plans to deploy the next significant upgrade, Ecotone, on the mainnet around March 2024. Ecotone aims to integrate seamlessly with the proposed EIP-4844 on Layer-1, further optimizing operational costs for Optimism and its OP Chains.
Earlier this week, Optimism also announced Phase 4 of its airdrop program, rewarding members who have actively contributed to the network's activities.
