Optimism Surprises with Additional $75 Million OP Airdrop to Users

The remainder of unclaimed OP from Airdrop #1 is being distributed directly to eligible addresses.
If you were eligible for Airdrop #1, but you haven’t claimed your tokens yet, you will receive OP directly at your address.
This amount represents leftover tokens from Optimism's airdrop in June 2022, which remained unclaimed for unspecified reasons. The project stated that tokens would be directly sent to over 88,000 valid addresses, beginning from 11:00 PM on September 15, with distribution expected to last approximately 12 hours.
Based on current market prices, the 48 million OP tokens are valued at approximately $75 million USD. The OP token price has seen an increase following the announcement of the airdrop of these remaining tokens.

Optimism further noted that distributing the remaining airdrop funds would enable the project to shift focus towards developing new features and planning for future airdrop rounds.
In the past, Optimism has conducted two airdrop events:
- First airdrop (June 2022): 214 million OP tokens distributed, accounting for 5% of the total supply.
- Second airdrop (February 2023): 11.7 million OP tokens distributed, accounting for 0.27% of the total supply.
According to the tokenomics plan, Optimism aims to airdrop up to 19% of the total OP supply to community users, leaving approximately 13.73% of the total supply of 4.29 billion OP tokens allocated for future airdrops.

Distribution of OP tokens by Optimism
Optimism remains a prominent layer-2 solution on Ethereum, with a Total Value Locked (TVL) of $2.48 billion USD, second only to Arbitrum.
In addition to serving as a layer-2 solution for Ethereum, Optimism has emerged as a platform enabling numerous projects to build layer-2 solutions through the OP Stack toolkit, including notable projects such as Coinbase's Base, Zora Network by Zora, DeBank Chain by DeBank, Celo, and Ancient8 Chain.
