Polygonscan Experiences Extended Downtime

In the early hours of February 23 (Vietnam time), rumors spread throughout the crypto community that the Polygon network had gone down for several hours, causing considerable alarm.

Specifically, data from Polygonscan showed that the blockchain had neither mined new blocks nor processed transactions since around 03:30 this morning.

However, about two hours later, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal clarified that the issue was with Polygonscan, the blockchain explorer, and not with the network itself:

“It seems like Polygonscan is having some issues. You can use OKLink explorer in the meanwhile,” Nailwal tweeted.

He also recommended users switch to OKLink for transaction monitoring during the downtime.

In a statement to Decrypt, Polygon representatives explained:

“Block creation never stopped, but there may have been a temporary decrease in network performance. Nodes have since been synchronized, and the system has returned to normal.”

Although no financial losses were reported, the incident caused significant concern within the crypto community on Twitter.

Some took the opportunity to criticize Polygon, suggesting that developers might consider moving to its competitor, Solana:

“The fact that Polygon is literally down right now is an absolutely UNDENIABLE TRUTH. There is a literal exodus of devs to Solana (check dev growth rates). Oops!”

Others attempted to link the incident to Polygon’s recent decision to cut 20% of its workforce, as reported by Coin68 on February 21.

As of the time of writing, the issue appears to have been fully resolved, and Polygonscan is back online. Nonetheless, Polygon has previously experienced downtime of up to nine hours, while the community is also familiar with similar issues on the Solana network.
