The world’s largest retailer, Walmart, will be launching the Pudgy Penguins NFT toy collection across 2,000 stores in the United States.

Following its debut on Amazon, the Pudgy Penguins-branded toy collection is making its way to retail giant Walmart.

According to the announcement, physical Pudgy Penguins toys will be available at 2,000 Walmart locations in the U.S. Each Pudgy Toy comes with access to Pudgy World, an open world where players can create their own characters and interact with others. Pudgy World is built on zkSync Era, a popular layer-2 solution.

Walmart will offer 26 different Pudgy Toy varieties, including Plush Buddies, Clip-on Plushes, Igloo Collectibles, Action Figures, and the popular Blind Box toys. Each Pudgy Toy is priced between $2.99 and $11.97.

Brittany Smith, VP of Business Development at Walmart U.S., stated:

“We understand customers are looking for trendy, groundbreaking gifts to treat themselves or others. Pudgy Penguins is bridging the gap between physical and digital toys, appealing to kids with a reasonable price point.”

Additionally, each Pudgy Toy comes with a certificate that users can use to claim special details for their Forever Pudgy character via a QR code. The toy designs are based on IP from NFT collections Meebits and DeGods. As a result, current NFT holders will receive royalties for each toy sold at Walmart.

Pudgy Toys and Pudgy World first launched in May this year, initially available on Amazon. The collection sold out within two days, generating significant revenue.

Pudgy Penguins is an Ethereum-based NFT collection featuring 8,888 animated penguin NFTs, launched in 2021 and acquired by entrepreneur Luca Netz for $2.5 million a year later. Currently, the collection ranks 19th all-time in sales (400 million USD), and previously set records for trading volume and floor price in December last year.

The NFT floor price has seen significant volatility following the Walmart partnership announcement, with 24-hour volume spiking by 500%.
