Shiba Inu Prepares to Launch '.shib' Internet Domain
The Shiba Inu development team is collaborating with D3 to introduce the '.shib' internet domain, in an effort to move away from the memecoin shadow.

Revealed on the project's Telegram channel, a Shiba Inu representative disclosed plans to partner with D3 to deploy the “.shib” domain. Additionally, they will register the new product with ICANN, the global organization responsible for domain name allocation and management.
Currently, all internet domains must undergo ICANN scrutiny and review, such as domains like ".xyz" and ".app". Crypto domain suffixes are tied to wallet owners and are considered personal identifiers on the blockchain space, not functioning in traditional internet environments like browsers, emails, or mobile devices. As a result, no cryptocurrency domain has yet been connected to the traditional DNS domain system.
Placing trust in D3, Shiba Inu aims to become one of the first Web3 networks to possess its own DNS and penetrate the mainstream internet system. Shytoshi Kusama, the main developer of Shiba Inu, envisions the domain service as a gateway to onboard over 5 billion internet users into the SHIB ecosystem.
The SNS (SHIB Name Service), a domain service launched on the Shibarium layer-2 in November, will also migrate to D3 infrastructure. Similar to the Ethereum Name Service, SNS aims to replace complex wallet addresses with more memorable domain names, serving as a means of digital identity verification for all products built on the Shiba Inu and Shibarium blockchain platforms.
It will take time to see if ICANN approves Shiba Inu's plan. The organization's last approval of a new top-level domain was in 2012, with the next registration cycle scheduled for spring 2026. However, optimism remains, and if successful, Shiba Inu could significantly boost the cryptocurrency ecosystem as a whole.
The price of SHIB has remained stable over the past 24 hours, largely moving in line with the overall market.
