In an announcement on April 25, Solana Labs revealed that they are rolling out a plugin for the leading AI tool, ChatGPT. This integration will enable users to interact with Solana's blockchain, such as checking wallet balances, sending tokens, and even purchasing NFTs directly through ChatGPT.

According to screenshots shared by Solana Labs, ChatGPT will also be able to retrieve a list of NFTs from a specific wallet and extract data from Solana Labs' explorer.

Solana is encouraging developers to test this new feature by accessing the open-source codebase. Alongside this, Solana announced a $1 million grant fund to support the development of AI tools within its ecosystem.

However, not everyone is on board with Solana's move. Some argue that Solana should focus on developing a more polished explorer first, while others question the benefits of AI integration for the ecosystem.

The $1 million grant fund seems relatively modest compared to other ecosystems, although Solana has stated that this is merely a supplementary fund. In February, TRON established a $100 million fund for AI projects.

Despite the controversies, the growing popularity of ChatGPT is undeniable due to its tangible value. It's not surprising to see blockchain projects jumping on the bandwagon; for instance, Binance recently launched its ChatGPT-based chatbot, Sensei. Similarly, Web2 giants like Microsoft, Google, and Alibaba have also unveiled their versions of ChatGPT.
