Solana Network Goes Down Again: What Caused the Latest Outage?

Despite recent improvements in its operational stability, Solana has once again experienced a network outage, and this time it occurred during a period of relatively low market activity and no significant congestion.

At 7 AM on October 1, 2022, the Solana Status Twitter account announced an outage. The statement read:

"Solana network is experiencing an outage and is unable to process transactions. Developers within the ecosystem are working to identify the issue and restart the network. Updates will be provided as soon as possible."

According to Laine, a validator operator on Solana, the network has released documentation to address the issue:

"The Solana network will restart at slot 153139220, the last slot confirmed before the outage."

Laine further explained that the outage was caused by an inadequately configured node, which led to a loss of data during the validation process. Additionally, the Solana community is urging validators to update their nodes promptly to reach consensus based on current data.

This incident indicates that the latest network downtime stemmed from issues with network consensus. Historically, Solana’s previous outages were often attributed to its inability to withstand bot spam, leading to transaction overloads.
