Solana Promises Network Upgrade Enhancements to Boost Stability

Following a technical glitch that required a network restart, Solana’s engineering team has pledged to enhance network stability through major upgrades to prevent similar issues in the future.

Solana Pledges to Enhance Network Upgrades to Boost Stability

As reported by Coin68 last weekend, Solana's network experienced another technical issue, necessitating a restart to fix the problem. Unable to pinpoint the exact cause, Solana developers decided to roll back the node software from v1.14 to v1.13, suspecting the new version may have contributed to the issue.

This is not the first time an upgrade has caused network disruptions for Solana. The v1.14 test release in January also encountered technical problems before it could be officially deployed on the mainnet.

In response, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has assured that the team is working to improve the software upgrade process to ensure reliability and uptime, avoiding similar software issues in the future.

Yakovenko stated:

“Our top priority remains delivering a fast, reliable, and scalable network. The v1.14 update aimed to focus on speed and scalability improvements for Solana. However, the issues encountered last weekend have highlighted just how challenging it is to maintain stability during major updates.”

Prior to the v1.14 release, the engineering team prioritized fixing issues that directly impacted user experience, such as gas fee miscalculations and inadequate transaction parallelization controls.

The lessons learned from last week's issues have made the Solana team more cautious. They plan to involve additional developers and independent auditors to assist with smart contract audits and bug detection.

Additionally, a new core engineering team has been formed, with one-third of its members coming from Solana Labs.

Beyond the core engineers, Solana benefits from various teams from investment funds and projects contributing to the network. For instance, Jump Crypto is committed to improving the Solana blockchain and is developing a new validator named Firedancer.

Yakovenko shared:

“The Firedancer team at Jump Crypto is building a second validator to enhance throughput, efficiency, and network resilience. Meanwhile, developers from Mango DAO are focusing on designing essential tools for building DApps on Solana.”
