Starknet Deploys Quantum Leap Upgrade on Mainnet

Starknet has just deployed the Quantum Leap V12.0 upgrade on its mainnet. This update is expected to significantly enhance the network's processing speed in the coming period.

The upgrade was announced by the Starknet team on their Twitter account, following about a week of testing on the Goerli testnet.

The team anticipates that by the end of Q3, the network will approach triple-digit figures in terms of Transactions Per Second (TPS). Currently, Quantum Leap has recorded 37 TPS during testing, with some phases reaching up to 90 TPS, a notable improvement over the previous threshold of 10 TPS.

Starknet is a Layer-2 network using Validity proof mechanisms and is part of the zk-Rollups category.

“We have achieved a steady milestone of 37 TPS upon initial deployment. There were even phases where we nearly hit 100 TPS. We previously stated that by Q3, TPS would reach the hundreds, and we hope that upcoming stress tests will prove the network is on the right path,” said Uri Kolodny, CEO of StarkWare.

Latency Improvements

Along with increasing processing speed, Quantum Leap aims to improve latency. This upgrade reduces the transaction confirmation time to under 10 seconds under standard conditions. StarkWare’s CEO added:

“Furthermore, we aim to reduce latency to under 15 seconds, with the ultimate goal being to confirm most transactions within 10 seconds.”

StarkWare expects these improvements to help scale applications on Ethereum and support both DeFi and gaming markets, providing better processing speeds for users.

The Starknet team announced that version 13.0 will be deployed by the end of this year, including tweaks and transaction fee reductions. Looking further ahead, version 14.0 will help developers integrate various payment forms for transactions. This version aims to create a market for block space within the Layer-2 ecosystem.
