Starknet Integrates Blobstream Solution from Celestia

Layer-2 solution Starknet has announced the integration of the Blobstream mechanism from Celestia, a data availability platform that has been gaining significant attention recently.

In a post on social media platform X, Starknet's official account stated that integrating Blobstream from Celestia will enhance performance for Layer-3 solutions built on Starknet.

Celestia is a modular blockchain solution designed to support data availability (DA), ensuring data is accessible for verification processes. However, this network is often isolated and challenging to interact with other networks (especially EVM solutions). To address this, Celestia developed Blobstream to establish bridges and integrate DA infrastructure into external solutions.

Although Starknet is not purely an EVM project, it faces similar challenges when utilizing Celestia's DA services.

By integrating Blobstream's smart contract into the Starknet network, Cairo language developers can easily build applications based on Celestia's DA solution. Additionally, Starknet mentioned the potential future integration of Volition, a flexible version combining ZkRollup and Validium.

In December 2023, Starknet announced plans to allocate 1.8 billion STARK tokens to groups contributing to the project's development. However, this announcement sparked controversy, particularly around the potential airdrop. Following some offensive remarks directed at the community, a project founder issued an apology.

Celestia has been continuously announcing product integrations with various networks and applications. A recent point of interest for Celestia is the TIA token airdrop for stakers. Projects like Dymension, Saga, and AltLayer have recently announced airdrops for Celestia stakers. Consequently, there is speculation within the community about whether Starknet might follow suit after this partnership.
