Starknet to Airdrop STRK Token on February 20

After a long wait, Starknet has finally set a date for its highly anticipated STRK token airdrop.

On February 14, the Starknet Foundation provided detailed information regarding the timing of the STRK airdrop event, the native token of the Starknet layer-2 network.

According to the announcement, at 07:00 PM Vietnam time on February 20, Starknet will distribute 700 million STRK tokens (7% of the total supply) to 1.297 million eligible cryptocurrency wallets, with the snapshot taken on November 15, 2023.

The list of eligible participants for the STRK airdrop includes:

• Early Starknet users: Utilizing the Starknet layer-2 platform on at least 5 occasions over separate 3-month periods, with a total transaction volume exceeding $100 USD by November 15, 2023, and owning at least 0.005 ETH at the snapshot time.
• Starknet Community Members: Participants in Starknet's Early Community Member Program (ECMP).
• Starknet and Ethereum Developers: Contributors to Starknet's development before November 15, 2023.
• StarkEx Users: Engaging with applications on StarkEx at least 8 times before June 1, 2022.
• EIP proposers: Authors of EIP proposals published before November 15, 2023.
• ETH Stakers: Staking ETH before The Merge event on September 15, 2022.
• Ethereum Protocol Guild Members before November 15, 2023.
• GitHub Developers: Contributors to the top 5000 global repositories with at least 3 contributions by November 15, 2023.

According to Starknet Foundation disclosures, over half a million Starknet wallets and 600,000 StarkEx wallets qualify for the airdrop, alongside 137,000 open-source developers and 19,000 ETH stakers.

Qualified users can claim their airdrop from February 20 until the deadline on June 20, 2024.

Starknet has also disclosed the primary utilities of the STRK token post-launch, including transaction fee payments on the layer-2 network, participation in governance, and staking.

Previously, in December 2023, Starknet revealed initial details of the token allocation plan. Specifically, 1.8 billion STRK tokens allocated for the community are split into two parts, with half reserved for the airdrop and the remainder dedicated to supporting the layer-2 transaction fee initiative.

However, the schedule for distributing STRK tokens has faced criticism from the community for unlocking up to 13% of the total supply for development teams and investors just two months after the token airdrop.
