Starknet Unveils Roadmap, Hints at Possible Token Launch Timeline

StarkWare, the team behind the Layer 2 scaling solution Starknet, has just unveiled its 2023 development roadmap.

According to the latest announcement, Starknet’s primary focus for 2023 will be enhancing user experience (UX). Moving into 2024, the emphasis will shift towards network decentralization and making network-shaping decisions.

Specifically, in 2023, Starknet will concentrate on several aspects: performance optimization, throughput, network latency, transaction fees, and transaction speed. The detailed timeline for these improvements is outlined in the roadmap.

This year marks Starknet’s transition into the “Regenesis” phase, which involves upgrading the Cairo smart contracts from version 0 to Cairo 1.0 without requiring a network restart or any disruptions.

Regenesis is set to be a key milestone and the concluding chapter of the Starknet roadmap. Future significant changes to the network will be decided through community governance (DAO).

Notably, as Starknet announces that 2024 will be focused on network decentralization, there is speculation that this could coincide with the potential launch of the STRK token for project governance. In November last year, Starknet first revealed its plans to deploy STRK on Ethereum mainnet and introduced the tokenomics for this coin.

This plan aligns with the Layer-2 zkSync Era project, which also plans to focus on network decentralization in 2024.
