Ubisoft Partners with Immutable to Develop Blockchain Game

Ubisoft, the game developer behind famous franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's, is advancing its blockchain gaming efforts through a partnership with Immutable—a company specializing in NFT technology, blockchain, and the Immutable X (IMX) protocol.
The collaboration between Ubisoft and Immutable aims to create a “new gaming experience to unlock additional benefits for players through the power of Web3.”

Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft's Innovation Lab, expressed confidence that Immutable will provide the advanced technology and expertise needed to seamlessly integrate digital elements into games.
“We are excited to collaborate with Ubisoft and look forward to delivering the best experience to players in a fully-featured game that captivates them with the excitement of the game,” said James Ferguson, CEO and co-founder of Immutable.
However, the announcement did not reveal specific details about the game under development. It is unclear whether Ubisoft will integrate an existing game into the Immutable X blockchain—an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution—or develop a new Play-to-Earn title.
Ubisoft is no stranger to NFT enthusiasts. The company was one of the early validators for the Ronin sidechain testnet, associated with the popular GameFi project Axie Infinity. A year later, Ubisoft introduced its first NFT items into the game Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, part of the Tom Clancy series.
Moreover, in late 2021, as the GameFi trend reached its peak, Ubisoft was instrumental in supporting blockchain games and providing an "escape route" for many companies. Most recently, in 2023, Ubisoft collaborated with Reddit to release Avatar NFT Rabbids.
This partnership marks a significant development for both companies. For Ubisoft, it's an opportunity to expand into the emerging blockchain gaming market, which is showing signs of resurgence. For Immutable, it's a chance to reach a larger audience through Ubisoft's well-known game franchises.
