The preparation for v4 will involve three phases. After the initial development phase, v4 will undergo comprehensive auditing and code finalization. The final phase will be the mainnet launch, expected in Q3 2024.
In previous announcements about v4, the Uniswap Foundation highlighted the major change in this version: the introduction of "Hooks." This mechanism allows developers to customize liquidity pools, adjust transaction fees flexibly, and support new types of trading orders.
Additionally, there will be various tweaks to smart contracts, market-making mechanisms, on-chain oracles, limit orders, and more. Overall, v4 aims to optimize the user trading experience (such as minimizing gas fees) and address the benefits for liquidity providers (LPs).
Uniswap has provided a few sample hooks to demonstrate their capabilities:
- Time-weighted average market maker (TWAMM)
- Customized on-chain oracles
- On-chain limit orders
These hooks are intended to enhance the functionality and expressiveness of Uniswap's platform.
