Azuki NFT Community Speculates Launch of Token

Recent activities surrounding Azuki NFT project suggest the imminent launch of its own token, sparking speculation within the NFT community.

In the past few days, the NFT community has been abuzz with rumors of Azuki preparing to introduce its own token. Specifically, Azuki's official X (Twitter) account retweeted a post from Weeb3 Foundation, a project introducing the development of the $ANIME token aimed at an open anime universe.

Weeb3 Foundation's profile X introduced "Powered by $ANIME", signaling a move towards an expansive anime universe.

Since joining X in December 2023, Weeb3 Foundation has quickly gathered over 10,000 followers despite this being their final post. The market reaction was swift following Weeb3's January 6th post, with Azuki NFT floor prices jumping from 6,377 ETH to 8,298 ETH at the time of writing, marking an increase of nearly 30% and reinforcing the feasibility of the token launch speculation.

Azuki, launched in February 2022, initially featured 10,000 anime-style profile pictures. Its captivating character designs quickly propelled Azuki to become one of the most recognizable NFT projects in the cryptocurrency community.

Previously, Azuki hinted at "tokenizing anime culture," promising benefits for supporters and holders of original Azuki NFTs.

The project faced controversy in June 2023 with the launch of the Elemental collection, criticized for its similar designs to the original NFTs yet priced at 2 ETH/NFT, raising suspicions of artificially inflating the supply. Azuki DAO subsequently requested the return of nearly 20,000 ETH raised from Elemental, returning it to the community.

The anticipation surrounding Azuki's potential token launch underscores its evolving strategy and continued influence in the NFT space.
