Linea Launches Mainnet Alpha V2 with Transaction Fee Improvements

Layer-2 solution Linea has recently announced the launch of its updated Alpha V2 version, featuring significant changes in operational costs and user experience.

With Alpha V2, the cost of sending verification proofs to Layer-1 has been reduced by 90% compared to Alpha V1. These cost reductions have been achieved through data compression and proof aggregation mechanisms.
Linea’s Alpha v2 is live on mainnet! 🎊This is a significant upgrade. L1 Costs per finalization are now up to 90% less expensive than Alpha v1 thanks to two exciting features: data compression and proof aggregation.

ZK-Rollup solutions bundle transactions into batches and must send corresponding proofs to Layer-1 blocks. Previously, V1 supported only one batch per proof. However, the new proof aggregation mechanism allows for 30 batches to be included in a single proof, optimizing the network's verification costs.
Regarding transaction data compression, since sending transaction data to Layer-1 incurs substantial storage costs, Linea has chosen to compress these data inputs, thereby minimizing the storage size required on Layer-1.
Thanks to these changes, Linea reports that gas fees for network operations will be reduced by up to 66%.
This upgrade unlocks huge benefits for the Linea ecosystem and immediately the gas prices on Linea have dropped by 66% with Alpha v2, making Linea one of the cheapest Rollups whilst still leveraging ZK technology.💫

Linea is a Layer-2 solution developed by Consensys. The solution's mainnet was officially launched in July 2023. However, the early stages of Linea's product development encountered several technical issues, notably the inability to support fast withdrawals for users.
