According to a recent announcement on X (Twitter), the NFT minting for Symbiogenesis will occur in three phases from November 27 to December 3. The first phase will release 10 NFTs for the project’s investors, the second will allocate 90 NFTs to whitelisted users, and the final phase will offer 400 NFTs to the general public.

These NFTs will represent characters from Symbiogenesis, a Web3 game developed by Square Enix, the renowned company behind franchises like Final Fantasy, Nier: Automata, and Tomb Raider. The game has been in development since early 2023 and is now in the final stages of preparation for its December release.

Symbiogenesis is described as “a gamified NFT collecting experience,” with the main goal being for players to collect NFTs to unlock the game’s storyline. The content of the game will also depend on the number of NFTs collected throughout the journey. In addition to character NFTs minted on Ethereum, the game will feature item NFTs released via the Polygon network.

Similar to other traditional Square Enix titles, Symbiogenesis will offer multiple endings. However, only three players will be able to unlock the special “World Mission” ending.

Square Enix has shown a notably positive stance towards blockchain technology. While other studios have experimented with NFTs and then retreated due to backlash from the gaming community, Square Enix views blockchain as a crucial development direction for the company’s future, as stated in their early 2022 announcement.

Last year, the company sold the intellectual property rights to several of its games for $300 million to fund its blockchain game strategy.
