Currently, OKX has displayed data for Worldcoin (WLD), supporting both Ethereum and Optimism networks.
According to Wu Blockchain, based on data from Arkham Intelligence, WLD has a total supply of 10 billion tokens, with a significant portion already sent to OKX and Bybit. Specifically, a total of six main addresses hold over 95% of WLD.
Worldcoin is a user identification project founded in 2021 by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company behind the influential AI tool ChatGPT. Worldcoin has also garnered attention from prominent backers, including a16z, Coinbase, Apollo Ventures, Digital Currency Group, and many other major funds.
In May 2023, Worldcoin announced a $115 million Series C funding round led by Blockchain Capital, concurrently launching the World App wallet. Recently, the project completed its migration to the layer-2 OP Mainnet (Optimism).
In mid-July, Worldcoin reported reaching 2 million users globally who provided identity information.
In terms of operation, Worldcoin has developed a biometric device called the Orb for user identification through iris scanning. After the iris scan, users receive a World ID, akin to a global digital passport.
The concept of iris scanning as a method of personal authentication is highly anticipated for its developmental potential. However, concerns remain regarding whether Worldcoin can keep iris scan data secure and whether it has sufficient security mechanisms in place to protect it.
Despite diverging opinions since its inception, Worldcoin has quietly progressed to the token launch phase. It's noted that the Worlcoin token will temporarily not circulate in the United States due to current complex legal circumstances, specifically legal actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) targeting two leading exchanges, Binance and Coinbase.
