Cross-chain infrastructure solution Wormhole has announced a partnership with Worldcoin to introduce the World ID identification solution to the Solana ecosystem.
Wormhole Partners with Worldcoin to Bring World ID Technology to Solana Network
This collaboration is part of Worldcoin's Human Collective Grants program. As part of this initiative, infrastructure solutions will receive funding in the form of WLD tokens and will contribute to building and expanding the World ID identification solution to reach new market segments.
This move aims to optimize the identification solution for World ID, leveraging the previously established Wormhole Queries data infrastructure. This solution connects wallet address data points and users in EVM ecosystems with Solana.
DApps on Solana will also benefit from this initiative, as Wormhole Queries will act as a reception point, tracking authentication proofs from World ID's Ethereum smart contracts.
Previously, Worldcoin announced plans to develop a separate Layer-2 solution based on the OP Stack toolkit. This plan is a response to the growing demand for handling identification operations, despite previous controversies surrounding the project's user "iris scanning" approach.
User identification needs in the Web3 space are becoming increasingly important, especially after numerous projects announced airdrops for users and encountered significant issues in filtering Sybil attacks. Despite rigorous final filtering efforts, the latest projects airdropping to users, ZKsync and LayerZero, have faced criticism and doubts about the transparency of their real user identification processes.
Therefore, the partnership between Wormhole and World ID represents a hopeful step towards a new Sybil filtering mechanism, fostering greater trust between users and projects during the final filtering process.
